The Step Up Youth Employment Program prepares today’s youth for tomorrow’s careers by recruiting, training and placing more than 1,600 young people (ages 14-21) in paid internships each year with over 200 regional employers that span 15 industries and multiple sectors. Job Summary

The Step Up Level 2 Work Readiness Trainer leads a classroom of 25+ young people (ages 16-21) and teaches them the skills they need to be successful in their Step Up summer internships. Guided by the Step Up work readiness curriculum, trainers must exemplify professionalism, be effective and engaging presenters, and offer concrete, personal examples of workplace behaviors. Trainers also assess and document participation for each trainee in their class. This is a part-time, short-term position that REQUIRES a valid teaching license.

The City of Minneapolis partners with AchieveMpls and Project for Pride in Living to deliver the work readiness training required for Step Up internships.  The Step Up curriculum is aligned with the Minneapolis Public Schools career readiness seminar so that Step Up interns can earn high school credit for their training.

Time Commitment

Required half-day orientation from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm at Minneapolis College:

  • Saturday, February 23rd

Teach five half-days of training from 7:30 am-1:00 pm at Minneapolis College:

  • Saturday, March 2nd
  • Saturday, March 9th
  • Saturday, March 16th
  • Saturday, April 27th
  • Saturday, May 18th
  •  Saturday, June 1 – Make up day (4 trainers needed)

*The trainer will also have the opportunity to lead a professional development day for Step Up interns in the summer of 2019. More information will be available after completion of the spring training.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Enthusiastically deliver Step Up work readiness curriculum
  • Create an environment in which young people are comfortable learning and working together
  • Assess and document participation for each trainee
  • Assist trainees in preparing for job interviews
  • Be present for every training session as listed above
  • Attend trainer orientation on Saturday, February 23rd

Minimum Requirements

  • Valid Minnesota teaching license
  • Excellent teaching or training skills
  • 1-2 years professional experience
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to model professionalism to young trainees
  • Desire to work with and motivate Minneapolis youth
  • Ability to command the attention of a group of young people
  • A flexible, positive attitude
  • A strong commitment to youth development
  • A valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and a clean driving record as determined by our insurance carrier

Compensation: $23.00/hr.

This position is being hired by Project for Pride in Living in collaboration with AchieveMpls.
